Best in the Northwest? Local high school wins Utah tournament for second straight year
The Skyview High volleyball team entered the 2017 season ranked No. 38 nationally, and the Hawks are likely to continue their climb up the rankings after another strong weekend.
The Hawks won the Rocky Mountain Champions Classic in Lehi, Utah, on Saturday for the second consecutive season, sweeping Eagle 25-20, 25-16 in the best-of-three title match of the gold bracket to stay unbeaten on the season.

Skyview, the defending 4A state champion, has five players with Division I offers on its roster. The Hawks didn’t lose a game in seven matches at the tournament, which featured 32 teams.
“It was great for our kids and the program to win that tourney back-to-back years — lots of great teams down there,” Skyview coach Kevin Murphy said. “We got as many touches down this weekend as we have the entire season so far.
“It definitely helps us see where we are at and what we need to do going forward.”
Senior outside hitter Dani Nay — the reigning 4A Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year and a Weber State commit — led the Hawks with 57 kills in tournament play. Sisters and BYU commits Morgan and Whitney Bower added 114 digs and 78 assists, respectively.
Karen Murphy, who has an offer from Montana, chipped in 72 assists, 41 digs and 23 kills.
This weekend, the Hawks will play in the invitation-only play Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas against some of the top teams in the country.
Skyview’s next home match is Tuesday, Sept. 19, against Vallivue.
