Boise golfer qualifies for U.S. Senior Open Championship

Amateur Scott Vermeer won a sectional qualifier Monday at Waverly Country Club, earning a spot in the major to be held at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, from Aug. 11-14.

Sixty-five golfers competed in the 18-hole event, with two spots up for grabs. Vermeer nabbed low-amateur and medalist honors with a round of 71 that included seven birdies.
