Four Idaho golfers fail to qualify for U.S. Open
PGA Tour players Troy Merritt (Boise State) and Tyler Aldridge (Vallivue High, Boise State), Ty Travis (Eagle High, Boise State) and Josh Gliege (Eagle High, Texas A&M commit) did not advance past Monday’s qualifying tournaments across the nation.
Merritt shot 72-71 at Springfield (Ohio) Country Club, Gliege (73-73) and Travis (77-76) played at Royal Oaks CC in Vancouver, Wash., and Aldridge withdrew after a first-round 73 at Germantown CC in Memphis, Tenn.
Monday’s 10 sectional qualifiers leaves the U.S. Open field of 156 players mostly complete. The tournament is June 16-19 at Oakmont.
