“At this time I would like to announce that I will be leaving the University of Idaho. First and foremost I want to thank all my teammates, coaches and advisors that helped me throughout my time at Idaho. I want to thank all of the fans for supporting both myself and my team. I wish Vandal nation nothing but the best in this upcoming season and in the future. I will forever appreciate my time spent in Moscow. Thank you to everyone who has helped me and continues to support me through this journey, I’m looking forward to tackling any obstacles the future may hold! See you at the top!”
Athletic Director Rob Spear told the Moscow-Pullman Daily News that Luton has not asked for a release from the program.
Luton, who threw for 403 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions, and also ran for five TDs last season, was the No. 1 quarterback this spring while Linehan recovered from foot surgery.
Linehan, a junior, is expected to start this fall.
