Idaho colleges roundup: Vandals men’s golf falls to fifth at NCAA regional
Daniel Sutton added an even-par 72 on Tuesday to his opening 69 for a two-day total 141 and third place, three shots back with 18 holes to play in the regional tournament at Blackwolf Run. The Vandals, who were tied for the team lead after the first day, shot 11-over 299 and are fifth at 6-over 582. Florida, a first-day co-leader, leads at 11-under 565. The low five teams qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO BASEBALL: The Coyotes lost to William Carey 7-6 in the opening round of the NAIA National Championships in Santa Barbara, Calif. The C of I (38-21) falls to the consolation bracket and will await the loser between No. 2 Madonna (Mich.)/No. 3 Master’s (Calif.) at 10 a.m. MT Wednesday.
BOISE STATE SOFTBALL: Shortstop Rebekah Cervantes is the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-MW selection along with first baseman Teauna Hughes.
NORTHWEST NAZARENE TRACK & FIELD: Two athletes will represent the Crusaders at the NCAA Division II Championships from May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla. Two-time All-American Payton Lewis (Nampa Christian High) earned an automatic berth in the pole vault by clearing 17 feet, 0.75 inches. This is his second trip to the outdoor championship meet. Ellie Logan qualified in her first season of track and field after a school record in the javelin of 151-11.
