Idaho Vandals

Idaho colleges roundup: Idaho women’s golf wins program’s first Big Sky title

Sophie Hausmann shot a final-round 70 on Wednesday to help lift the Vandals to a one-shot victory over Sacramento State at the Big Sky Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.

Idaho, which trailed by as many as four strokes on the back nine, pulled off a team-total 868 as Hausmann recorded a birdie on the 18th hole.

Hausmann became the first Vandal freshman to win an individual crown with a victory on the first hole of a playoff with Eastern Washington’s Marissa Borja. Both players carded 4-under 212.

Hausman and Michelle Kim were named first team All-Big Sky. Kim, who tied for 13th at 4-over 220, was the Freshman of the Year. Kristin Strankman and Cassie McKinley were second-team selections, while Kendall Gray was honorable mention.

The Vandals will compete at the NCAA Stanford Regional on May 5-7.

BOISE STATE TENNIS: Thomas Tenreiro is the Mountain West men’s player of the week, while Hanna Kantenwein is the women’s player of the week.
