Idaho Vandals rack up yardage in spring scrimmage
Sophomore quarterback Jake Luton took a majority of the snaps and completed 36-of-64 attempts for 571 yards and seven touchdowns as the Vandals netted 1,121 yards in Saturday’s spring scrimmage at Lewiston High.
Callen Hightower had 11 catches for 180 yards, and Deon Watson had 10 for 199.
Returner Aaron Duckworth was the day’s yardage leader with 103 on 14 carries, while Isaiah Saunders had 18 carries for 86 yards. Denzal Brantley made his presence known as well with nine carries for 76 yards.
The defense was putting up impressive numbers, too. Tony Lashley, back from injury in 2015, had 14 stops at linebacker, while Jayshawn Jordan, who also missed 2015 with injury, had 12. Jordan Grabski had nine and Ed Hall notched eight. Up front, Tueni Lupeamanu had seven stops, which includes three tackles for loss and two sacks.
The Vandals’ next scrimmage is 10 a.m. next Saturday at the Kibbie Dome.
