Brandon Westendorf scored 21 points, and Seattle (15-16) outlasted Idaho 68-63 on Wednesday in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.
“Our program took a huge step forward this year,” said head coach Don Verlin. “We lost four starters from last year and this team bought in to what we were teaching. They bought in to being Vandals and they made this season special. Every obstacle that came, they conquered it and overcame it and they turned in one of the best seasons in program history.”
Idaho led 41-40 with 7:43 to play before Brendan Westendorf poured in 14 of his game-high 21 points to help the Redhawks claim the victory. Seattle also made 11 of their final 14 free throws down the stretch. Westendorf also had 11 rebounds and five assists.
The Redhawks held Idaho to 30.4 percent shooting, including 1-of-7 on three-pointers in the first half.
