Montana beats Idaho in Big Sky men’s semifinals

Martin Breunig scored 22 points and Montana shot 71 percent from the field in the second half, and beat Idaho 81-72 on Friday night in a Big Sky Tournament semifinal.

The No. 2 seed Grizzlies (21-10) face top-seeded Weber State (25-8) in the championship game Saturday.

Walter Wright added 20 points, and Bobby Moorehead made all five shot-attempts and finished with 13 points for Montana, which finished 28-of-43 (65 percent) from the field.

Perrion Callandret made four 3-pointers and scored 25 points for No. 3 seed Idaho (21-12).

Montana took the lead for good midway through the first half, and built an eight-point halftime lead. The Vandals pulled to 50-48 with 10:15 remaining before the Grizzlies used an 18-9 spurt to take a 68-57 lead with 4:19 left and cruised from there.

Idaho snapped the Grizzlies’ seven-game winning streak on Jan. 22 with a 63-58 victory in Missoula in the teams’ lone regular-season meeting.
