Fresh off his most productive season in the NFL, former University of Idaho defensive end Benson Mayowa signed with the Oakland Raiders on Tuesday.
Mayowa played for the Arizona Cardinals last season, racking up career highs in tackles (36) and passes defended (4). He appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals, including four starts, and added 13 tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
This will be the 6-foot-3, 265-pound unrestricted free agent’s second stint with the Raiders. He was previously on Oakland’s roster in 2014 and 2015, registering 32 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass defended and one fumble recovery in 28 games.
The 2019 season will be Mayowa’s seventh in the NFL. Originally an undrafted free agent out of Idaho, Mayowa signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 after participating in a rookie minicamp. After one year with the Seahawks, Mayowa spent two with the Raiders (2014-15), two with the Dallas Cowboys (2016-17) and one with the Cardinals.
Mayowa, a native of Inglewood, California, played four seasons with the Vandals from 2009 to 2012. He played in 46 games with 14 starts and totaled 70 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, eight forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
The Raiders did not release details on Mayowa’s contract.
