College of Idaho hires new cross country/track coach

Former Coyote All-American Austin Basterrechea is the new head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs.

Basterrechea replaces Pat McCurry, who resigned Wednesday after 12 years at the position. McCurry resurrected the program in 2004 after a 27-year hiatus.

Basterrechea, a Gooding native, won four Cascade Conference individual titles during his C of I career from 2011-14, earning NAIA All-American honors in the indoor heptathlon in 2012 and 2014 and the outdoor decathlon in 2013 and 2014. He set seven C of I school records.
