Idaho colleges roundup (Dec. 2): C of I volleyball falls to 1-1 at nationals

The Yotes (23-11) took the first set from third-ranked Missouri Baptist, but the Spartans prevailed 20-25, 25-22, 25-15, 26-24 in pool play at the NAIA Volleyball National Championships on Wednesday. Kylie Porter (Capital High) led C of I with 11 kills and six blocks, while Jackie van Vliet added eight kills and six blocks. Sierra Porter (Rocky Mountain High) had 37 assists, four blocks and two aces, and Kilee Lopez (Vallivue High) had 20 digs. The Yotes (1-1 Pool C) complete pool play at noon Thursday against Ottawa, Kan. (0-2). Missouri Baptist is 2-0, and Rocky Mountain, which C of I swept Tuesday, is 1-1. The top two teams advance to the 12-team final bracket.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE VOLLEYBALL: Sophomore middle blocker Madi Farrell was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region Team and the Conference Commissioners Association West Region second team. She was fourth in Division II in blocks per set (1.49) and 13th in hitting percentage (.367).

BOISE STATE MEN’S TENNIS: Pedro Platzeck Cavalcante (Boca Raton, Fla.), Ryland McDermott (Las Vegas) and Wyatt Demulling (Burien, Wash.) signed letters of intent. Platzeck Cavalcante will join the team for the spring semester in January.

NNU WOMEN’S GOLF: Natalie Beggrow (Eagle High) signed a letter of intent with the Crusaders.
