Idaho State football looks for biggest upset win yet at No. 3 Eastern Washington

The Bengals (2-7, 1-5 Big Sky) take on No. 3 Eastern Washington at 4:35 p.m. Saturday in Cheney, searching for the biggest upset in program history.

The highest ranked opponent Idaho State has ever beaten is No. 5 — Montana in 1994 and 2003, and Eastern Washington in 2005.

The Eagles (8-1, 6-0) have won nine straight over Idaho State since that 2005 loss, including a 45-28 win in Pocatello last year.

Idaho State is without starting quarterback Tanner Gueller, who is out with an injury, according to the Idaho State Journal. Junior Trae Pilster (Blackfoot High) took over in the second half of last week’s 62-44 loss at Montana, completing 6-of-10 passes for 143 yards and his first career TD.

Saturday will be Pilster’s first career start.

ISU linebacker Mario Jenkins (Columbia High) continues to lead the Big Sky with 9.7 tackles per game. Despite an injury, he made five tackles and his fifth career interception last week. Linebacker Hayden Stout (Meridian High) racked up nine tackles against Montana and made his first career reception on a fake punt in the second quarter.
