Idaho State (2-2, 1-0 Big Sky) will try for its first back-to-back wins since 2014 when it travels to Portland State (1-3, 0-1) on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).
The Bengals are coming off a 42-34 home win over Sacramento State in their Big Sky opener. Sophomore quarterback Tanner Gueller completed 26-of-34 passes for 270 yards and two TDs, allowing him to rank 12th nationally in completions per game in a pass-heavy offense.
Tight end Josh Cook leads the team with 23 catches for 281 yards, while while receiver Hagen Graves (Skyview High) is tied for third with 18 catches for 148 yards.
On the offensive line, true freshman Jacob Molenaar (Capital High) is slated to start at left guard for the third straight week, giving the Bengals three starting linemen from the Treasure Valley alongside freshman center Dallen Collins and sophomore right tackle Kyle Jones, both from Vallivue High.
Portland State has won five of the last six meetings, including last year’s 34-14 win in Pocatello. The Vikings and their option attack are unranked for the first time in 17 weeks after three straight losses — to San Jose State and Washington, and their Big Sky opener at Southern Utah.
