Boise State football gives Vander Esch scholarship

The program placed linebacker Leighton Vander Esch on scholarship after he redshirted last season as a walk-on.

Vander Esch led Salmon River High to state titles in football and basketball his junior and senior years, earning 1A All-Idaho Player of the Year honors in both sports his senior year.

The 6-foot-4, 222-pound Vander Esch is one of six scholarship linebackers on the roster, with two more expected to join the team this summer.
