Boise State transfer portal tracker: Who’s leaving and who’s arriving?
The college football transfer portal officially opened on Jan. 2 and will remain open for two weeks, until Jan. 16.
Once seen as an opportunity for college athletes to earn a second chance elsewhere — even when transfer students had to sit out an entire season — the portal has now become the Wild West, a place of seemingly unregulated wheeling and dealing.
From allowing players to immediately play upon transferring to the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness money — which has enabled players to become free agents earning tens of thousands or even millions of dollars — the landscape around the portal has drastically changed in recent years.
Over 2,900 players have announced their intention to enter the portal, according to On3’s tracker, with 1,441 of those having committed to play at a school.
Boise State isn’t immune to the struggles brought on by the transfer bedlam. The Broncos already have learned they will lose a starting safety, as well as several depth pieces, including a backup quarterback.
As of Jan. 9, 17 Broncos had entered the portal while 12 had committed to play for Boise State in 2026. The number of Boise State players in the portal rises to 18 if you include cornerback Davon Banks, who was kicked off the team November.
Here are the players who have made their intentions public and, if applicable, where they seem to be headed.
Incoming transfers
Below is the latest list of players who have confirmed their commitment to Boise State. The classes listed next to their names are their class in the 2026 football season.
Logan Brantley - Redshirt junior linebacker from Kansas
Boise State needed some immediate reinforcements at linebacker with the loss of redshirt senior captain Marco Notarainni, and they’ve found it in Kansas Jayhawks transfer Logan Brantley.
Brantley featured in all 12 games for Kansas last year, registering eight total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Brantley is physically ready to slot into the starting lineup for Pac-12 play.
He’ll likely be competing for the position alongside redshirt sophomore Boen Phelps, who seemingly locked down the position late in 2025, and redshirt junior Jake Ripp.
Harry Stewart III - Redshirt sophomore running back from Kansas
The Boise State running back room is in good hands with Sire Gaines and Dylan Riley, but the Broncos have added extra firepower with the addition of Jayhawks running back Harry Stewart III.
Stewart made 21 rushing attempts for Kansas in 2025, totaling 98 yards and a touchdown. At 5-foot-10 and 215 pounds, Stewart should arrive at Boise State in shape for Pac-12 play.
He committed to Boise State just three days after fellow Jayhawk teammate Logan Brantley also made the switch to BSU.
Juelz Goff - Redshirt sophomore running back from Pitt
Juelz Goff ended the 2025 season as the Pitt Panthers’ third-leading rusher with 270 yards and five touchdowns on 69 carries. Yet despite likely being the Panthers’ RB2 next season, he’s joined a Broncos running back room that is suddenly bursting at the seams.
Goff will challenge returning lead rushers Dylan Riley and Sire Gaines for snaps, as well as incoming Kansas transfer running back Harry Stewart III.
Taebron Bennie-Powell - Redshirt sophomore safety from Notre Dame
Taebron Bennie-Powell becomes the second Fighting Irish player to make the switch to Boise State in as many years, as he follows in the footsteps of cornerback Jaden Mickey.
Bennie-Powell redshirted his freshman year in 2024 and played just one game for Notre Dame in 2025, in which he recorded a solo tackle against Syracuse. However, in a Boise State secondary that lost its best two safeties in Ty Benefield and Zion Washington, Bennie-Powell will look to challenge for starts immediately.
Akeem Wright - Junior wide receiver from De Anza College
On paper, Wright is only arriving as a junior college transfer. But the 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver has the chance to make an immediate impact upon arriving at Boise State.
Wright arrives as a JUCO All-American, totalling 112 receptions for 2,137 yards and 25 touchdowns in 22 games for De Anza.
He recorded 59 catches for 1,173 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025 and was named the Golden Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Darren Morris - Redshirt senior wide receiver from Southern University
The Broncos have lost three upperclassmen wide receivers to either graduation or the transfer portal, leaving a relatively young and inexperienced wide receiver corps heading into 2026.
Redshirt junior Darren Morris will aim to solve that problem.
Morris arrives from Southern University, an HBCU program competing in the FCS’s Southwestern Athletic Conference. He recorded 27 receptions for 508 yards, an average of 18.8 per reception, and four touchdowns in 2025.
JeRico Washington Jr. - Redshirt junior cornerback from Kennesaw State
JeRico Washington Jr. arrives at Boise State at a pivotal moment for the cornerback room, which lost three key contributors following the 2025 season. The room will also head into 2026 with new cornerbacks coach Terrence Brown, giving Washington the chance to impress a fresh set of eyes.
Washington was part of the Kennesaw State team that played its first season at the FBS level in 2024 and suffered the ignominy of a 2-10 season in Conference USA. However, he played all 12 games for the Owls in 2025 as they rebounded to a 10-4 season and a loss in the Myrtle Beach Bowl to Western Michigan.
He recorded a team-high two interceptions and three forced fumbles in 2025, as well as 52 total tackles and 11 pass breakups.
Caden Kellow - Redshirt senior longsnapper from Weber State
Boise State has enjoyed consistency at long snapper since 2022, thanks to 2025 All-Mountain West First Teamer Mason Hutton. However, with Hutton finally set to graduate, the Broncos hit the portal to find his backup and landed on Weber State transfer Caden Kellow.
Kellow began his career at Utah State, then transferred to Missouri State before landing at FCS school Weber State. He was the Wildcats’ primary long snapper this past season, completing 65 punts and 51 field goals.
Boise State junior punter Oscar Doyle also arrived in Idaho via Weber State, but he did not play alongside Kellow.
Mikaio Edward - Redshirt junior defensive lineman from Central Washington
There will be some good competition among the interior defensive line this offseason following the graduation of defensive tackle Braxton Fely. The Broncos have several players vying for the position, and Mikaio Edward will be right in the mix.
Edward entered the 2025 season listed at 6-foot-1 and 280 pounds, meaning the Boise State training staff may look to add at least 10 pounds onto him by the start of the 2026 season.
Washington State also offered Edward, who arrives at Boise State with 41 tackles, seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss.
Nicholas Igwe - Sophomore defensive end from Kilgore Community College
Nicholas Igwe becomes the latest player from Kilgore Community College to transfer to Boise State. Kilgore is considered one of the best community colleges for football in Texas and has seen Chris Marshall Jr. and Jaylen Webb make the sweet to Boise State in recent years — both players are in the portal this year.
Senior Max Stege is the presumptive starter at defensive end in 2026, but Igwe will have the chance to battle with sophomore DE Bol Bol for backup reps and the opportunity to start beginning in 2027.
As a freshman with Kilgore in 2025, Igwe recorded 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble in nine games.
Zyhaire Lewis - Junior linebacker from Chaffey College
The Broncos enter 2026 with just two players who have played notable snaps at linebacker and, despite already adding Kansas linebacker Logan Brantley, added further depth with Zyhaire Lewis.
Lewis spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Chaffey College, a junior college in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
He played in 18 games across those two years, totaling 73 tackles, 38 of which were solo, eight tackles for a loss, three pass breakups, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Tyler Ethridge - Senior offensive lineman from Colorado State Pueblo
Boise State is returning just one of its starting offensive linemen from 2025, creating a depth issue within the group heading into the transfer portal.
Ethridge is 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds and played primarily left tackle at the junior college level. He appeared in all 12 games in 2025 and anchored a line that averaged 38.3 points and 443.3 yards per game, while allowing just 1.5 sacks per game.
Outgoing transfers
Below is the latest list of Boise State players who have confirmed that they have entered the transfer portal. The classes listed next to their names are their class in the 2026 football season.
Ty Benefield - Senior safety
Benefield was named to the All-Mountain West first team in 2025 after leading Boise State with 107 total tackles, including a team-high 70 solo. He was also named the defensive MVP in Boise State’s Mountain West championship game win over UNLV in December after recording eight tackles and a tackle for loss.
Head coach Spencer Danielson said he was confident that Benefield would either remain at Boise State or enter the NFL Draft — Benefield filed paperwork with the NFL in mid-December to receive a draft projection.
However, Benefield announced his intention to enter the portal via social media in late December, and committed to LSU on Jan. 6.
“While Boise has been my home for three years, sometimes you have to leave home in order to grow,” Benefield, a native of Altadena, California, posted on Instagram.
Chris Marshall - Redshirt senior wide receiver
Marshall came out of high school as a five-star recruit and landed at Texas A&M, where he played in six games as a freshman in 2022. He spent the spring 2023 semester at Ole Miss but was kicked off the team for violating team rules.
After a year at Kilgore Community College in Texas in 2023, Marshall landed at Boise State for the 2024 season. Injuries kept him sidelined for much of 2024, but he played in 11 games for the Broncos in 2025, making 30 catches for 574 yards.
However, he was also suspended for one game at Boise State in 2025 due to disciplinary issues.
Kaleb Annett - Redshirt sophomore quarterback
Annett spent two years at Boise State but never saw the field in a competitive game.
Starting redshirt junior quarterback Maddux Madsen has a final year of eligibility in 2026. When Madsen went down injured for multiple games in 2025, redshirt sophomore Max Cutforth replaced him.
With returning freshman quarterback Zeke Martinez on the roster, and incoming three-star QB recruits Jackson Taylor and Cash Herrera, the Broncos are set to have five quarterbacks in 2026.
Tyler Keinath - Graduate offensive lineman
The Broncos are losing a versatile guard in Keinath, who started eight games at right guard and also featured at left guard for the Broncos in 2024.
Keinath fell down the pecking order in 2025, but he still played in 12 games for the Broncos this past season. However, with just two offensive line starters returning in 2026 — right guard Roger Carreon and right tackle Daylon Metoyer — Keinath could have been in position to battle for a starting spot.
Before Boise State, Keinath previously played for California-based American River College and Western Illinois.
Hall Schmidt - Redshirt senior offensive tackle
Schmidt played 12 games at right tackle for the Broncos during their 2024 College Football Playoff run, but the 310-pound lineman battled injury for most of 2025 and only featured in two games.
He indicated his intent to enter the transfer portal in early December and had committed to UCLA by Jan. 5, just four days into the portal’s official opening.
Schmidt was part of the offensive line that led the way for Ashton Jeanty and the rest of the running back room to log a program record 3,365 rushing yards in 2024.
Greg Ard - Sophomore running back
Ard arrived at Boise State as one of the program’s highest-rated recruits, but he didn’t play a snap in 2025 as the team relied on sixth-year player Malik Sherrod, sophomore Dylan Riley and redshirt freshman Sire Gaines.
Chase Martin - Senior linebacker
Martin featured for the Broncos on defense and special teams in both 2023 and ‘24, including recording tackles in Boise State’s 2023 Mountain West championship game win and the subsequent LA Bowl loss to UCLA.
However, Martin didn’t play a snap in 2025 after missing most of the season due to injury. He ends his Boise State career with 19 total tackles, 11 of which were solo. He confirmed on Jan. 7 that he had committed to FCS program Cal Poly.
Clay Martineau - Junior linebacker
Martineau entered 2025 in the race to replace outgoing linebacker Andrew Simpson, who transferred to North Carolina. He rotated in for Boise State’s spring game last year and was named as a potential successor, but redshirt sophomore Boen Phelps nailed down the position over the course of the season.
Martineau appeared in two games in 2024 and one game in 2025, against Eastern Washington, in which he recorded a single tackle.
Jarrett Reeser - Redshirt senior kick specialist
Reeser began his college career as an early enrollee at Michigan State before transferring to San Diego State for his freshman year in 2022.
He arrived at Boise State in 2024 and played in seven games as a kickoff specialist, averaging 62.7 yards per kickoff and registering 14 touchbacks. However, Reeser kicked just three times last season: two kickoffs against Eastern Washington and one against App State.
Ja’Bree Bickham - Redshirt freshman cornerback
Bickham was one of Boise State’s highest-rated recruits in the Class of 2025, arriving from Texas as a four-star two-way player.
He was listed as a cornerback for Boise State but didn’t make an appearance for the Broncos in 2025. His departure will likely be a disappointment for the Broncos, who will be rebuilding their defensive backfield next season after three key contributors left at the end of the 2025 season.
Roland Podesta - Sophomore punter
Podesta arrived as an early enrollee last January. He’s a product of the ProKick Australia program, which has produced other Broncos, including former punter James Ferguson-Reynolds and current Bronco Oscar Doyle.
Podesta didn’t play in a game for Boise State in 2025 and is entering the transfer portal with all four years of eligibility remaining.
Demetric Whitlock - Senior wide receiver
Whitlock joined Boise State ahead of the 2025 season from Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He made one catch in the Broncos’ season opener at South Florida, as well as a 14-yard reception in Boise State’s 56-31 win over UNLV in October.
Several underclassmen receivers, such as sophomore Cam Bates and freshman Quinton Brown, earned regular reps ahead of Whitlock in 2025.
JJ Talo - Redshirt senior offensive lineman
Talo was ranked as a top-100 defensive end (93rd) in the nation by ESPN when he arrived at Boise State in 2022. But after redshirting his freshman year, Talo didn’t feature for the Broncos in any of the following three seasons.
He enters the portal with one year of eligibility remaining.
Jaylen Webb - Senior safety
Webb transferred to Boise State last year after beginning his college career at Kilgore Community College in Texas and earning NJCAA First Team All-America honors. He appeared in two games but failed to record a defensive snap.
Hayden Hanks - Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman
Hanks arrived at Boise State from Thompson Falls, Montana, as a three-star prospect with offers from FCS programs Montana and Montana State. He redshirted his freshman year in 2024 and was unable to break through last season.
Eyitayo Omotinugbon - Redshirt sophomore offensive lineman
Omotinugbon arrived at Boise State in 2024 as the No. 1-ranked interior offensive line recruit. He redshirted the 2024 season but didn’t feature once for the Broncos in 2025.
He enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.
Jambres Dubar - Senior running back
Dubar announced his plan to enter the portal in early November and left the program at the same time. Once thought to be a promising back, his career was marred by injuries, forcing him to miss half of 2024 and parts of 2025 before he departed. He ends his BSU career with 446 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Davon Banks - Graduate cornerback
Banks was kicked off the team in mid-November and announced in late December that he would be entering the portal as a graduate student.
Banks started the 2025 season as a starting cornerback but quickly lost the job after a tough showing in the season-opening loss to South Florida. He barely saw the field after the Broncos’ 28-7 loss at Notre Dame in early October.
Danielson said Banks was dismissed from the team for not meeting the expected standards of “how you interact with coaches and players.” Banks previously played at Washington for three seasons before spending two at Boise State.
