When it comes to conference championship odds, Boise State stands alone
Is it too early to start betting on the 2025 college football season?
For the most part, probably.
But odds are out on teams winning their respective conferences, and Boise State is a prohibitive favorite to capture the Mountain West championship for a third straight year.
In fact, the Broncos are the only team in Division I that has minus odds of winning a conference title, according to DraftKings. Boise State is -125 to win the Mountain West in 2025, ahead of UNLV (+400), San Jose State (+800) and Fresno State (+900).
That means you’d have to bet $125 to profit $100 on the Broncos. Or, if you want to go small, $10 to net $8, for an $18 payout.
The next-lowest odds for a conference favorite belong to Clemson, at +155 to win the ACC.
Boise State’s favorable odds come as the Broncos return plenty of starters from their 2024 College Football Playoff team, even without superstar running back Ashton Jeanty. The team is bringing back 69% of its overall production in 2025, according to ESPN, which ranks 9th in the nation.
The next-highest Mountain West team in returning production is Wyoming, with 64% (28th).
The team expected to be the Broncos’ primary challenger, UNLV, is undergoing a face-lift after an exodus of players following the departure of head coach Barry Odom to Purdue. The Rebels brought in former Florida coach Dan Mullen as a replacement. Boise State beat UNLV twice in 2024, including in the Mountain West title game, and went undefeated in conference play.
Beyond UNLV, San Jose State could challenge the Broncos, but the Spartans also lost some key pieces from 2024, including Triple Crown-winning wide receiver Nick Nash, who led all WRs in the country in catches, yardage and touchdowns.
Boise State’s odds of winning a national championship are not as strong, as would be expected. They are listed at +20,000, meaning a $10 bet would win you $2,000.
Here are the early favorites for the national championship, according to DraftKings:
Ohio State (+500)
Texas (+550)
Georgia (+650)
Penn State (+750)
Oregon (+850)
Alabama (+1,400)
Notre Dame (+1,400)
Clemson (+1,600)
