Another major piece of Boise State football’s defense to enter transfer portal

Boise State football on Wednesday lost its second defensive player in the past week, with senior lineman Braxton Fely announcing he would enter the transfer portal later this month and go elsewhere to complete his career.

Fely has played in every game possible for Boise State since he arrived as a freshman in 2022.

“Boise has been home for the past 3 years, and I have developed and created relationships that I will cherish forever,” Fely wrote in a three-paragraph statement on Instagram.

“After many prayers and conversations with family and loved ones, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with 1 year of eligibility left.”

Boise State just lost senior linebacker Andrew Simpson last week.

Fely was a constant for Boise State over three seasons at defensive end, playing in 42 games. He totaled 43 tackles, 8.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. He was selected to the All-Mountain West second team in 2024 as the team lost just one regular-season game and made the College Football Playoff.

Fely would have been one of the leaders on the defensive line in 2025 after Boise State lost several upperclassmen to graduation, including Ahmed Hassanein and Herbert Gums.

Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson officiated at Fely’s wedding in May 2024.

Fely became the fourth notable Bronco to decide he would go elsewhere, after Simpson, quarterback Malachi Nelson (UTEP) and wide receiver Prince Strachan (USC).
