Boise State jumps in AP Top 25 rankings. It’s the best spot in the poll since 2020. See where

An emphatic 45-24 victory for Boise State against Washington State on Saturday night set the Broncos up for a jump in The Associated Press Top 25 rankings this weekend.

Boise State jumped up to No. 21 in the week 6 rankings, released Sunday at noon, marking the second week the Broncos are ranked and the first time since 2020 that Boise State has been ranked for consecutive weeks. Boise State entered the rankings at No. 25 last week.

It’s the joint-highest Boise State has been ranked since 2020, when the Broncos also checked in at No. 21 in week 9 before dropping out of the rankings a week later.

The Broncos received 253 points, slotting in behind No. 20 Kansas State and ahead of No. 22 Louisville.

The media voters are more impressed with Boise State than voters in the Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Broncos received 103 points in that poll, good enough for No. 26 if the rankings were extended, and just behind No. 25 Illinois, which received 122 votes.

The Broncos aren’t the only Mountain West team in the polls. UNLV also checked in for the first time this season at No. 25 after a massive 59-14 victory over Fresno State. The blowout came less than a week after the Rebels lost their starting quarterback, Matthew Sluka, to the transfer portal following an NIL dispute.

Although Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson was pleased to see the Broncos moving in a positive direction, he’s continuing to block the outside noise around the rankings.

“For me, it doesn’t matter where we’re ranked; it’s still going to be about what are we learning and where are we going,” Danielson said Saturday night. “I’m a huge believer in process. It’s not something brand-new each week; it’s a process.”

Boise State will look to continue climbing the rankings next week when hosting Utah State at Albertsons Stadium. The Broncos, in their Mountain West opener, will be a big favorite over the 1-3 Aggies.
