Boise State wide receivers, edge and O-line coaches retained by new head coach Danielson

Boise State alum Matt Miller will return as wide receivers coach at his alma mater, head coach Spencer Danielson announced Tuesday.

The former Boise State receiver joined the staff as a full-time coach in 2020. He also spent the 2015 season as a quality control coach at his alma mater before leaving for a four-year stint at Montana State, where he spent two seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“As a Boise State alumnus, Matt Miller knows just what upholding the tradition of this program is all about,” Danielson said in a statement. “Boise is his home and I am so glad he is staying in the Treasure Valley for another year. Our wide receiver corps will benefit greatly going into next season by the consistency he brings and his ability to develop that unit into one that will be among the best in the Mountain West. I look forward to a lot of growth in that position group next year.”

Miller, 32, is getting a raise. He is expected to sign a two-year deal that will pay him $215,000 a year, according to his material term sheet. The deal is subject to approval by the Idaho State Board of Education. He was on a one-year deal that paid him $160,014 this year.

He is the fourth member of former Boise State coach Andy Avalos’ staff to be retained or promoted by Danielson, following running backs coach James Montgomery, offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, who was promoted from defensive line coach. All three also got raises.

Miller was a wide receiver at Boise State from 2011 to 2014. He was a two-time All-Mountain West pick, and he ended his playing career as the Broncos’ all-time leader in receptions (244), while ranking No. 2 in career receiving yards (3,049) and No. 3 in receiving touchdowns (29).

He still ranks No. 1 in career receptions and No. 3 in receiving touchdowns, but also ranks No. 3 in receiving yards, behind Thomas Sperbeck (3,601) and Titus Young (3,063).

Frazier returning for 2024

Former Boise State pass rusher Jabril Frazier will stay on the staff as the Broncos’ edge coach, Danielson announced Tuesday night.

Frazier spent two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant but was promoted to full-time edge coach last December. He is expected to sign a two-year deal that will pay him $140,000 a year. The deal is subject to approval by the Idaho State Board of Education. Frazier made $120,000 this year.

“Jabril Frazier is as hard-working and dedicated to success as anyone,” Danielson said in a statement. “He is a relentless worker that knows what success at Boise State means because he has lived it. He has done a great job with our edge position to date and I am excited he will continue developing that group with the disruptive force and speed for which it is known.”

Frazier was a first-team All-Mountain West pick as a redshirt senior in 2018. He finished his four-year playing career with 18 sacks and 24 tackles for loss.

Keane returning in 2024

Boise State offensive line coach Tim Keane will return next season, Danielson announced Tuesday night.

Keane’s unit ranked No. 12 in the country this season, allowing an average of 1.14 sacks a game, and paved the way for a rushing attack that ranked No. 6 in the nation with 214.9 yards a game.

“Tim Keane has done a phenomenal job coaching one of the best offensive lines in the country this year,” Danielson said in a statement. “His work in molding that group into one of the best lines Boise State has seen in several years is incredibly admirable and his ability to recruit and develop nationally recognized players stands out. Keeping him in the Treasure Valley was a priority of mine and one I am elated to have accomplished.”

Keane is expected to sign a two-year contract that will pay him $260,000 a year. The deal is subject to approval by the Idaho State Board of Education. Keane, who has spent the past three seasons at Boise State, made $225,014 this year.
