The Boise State football team has now added three transfers to its 2023 recruiting class in the past two days.

Former Utah pass rusher Tyler Wegis and former Northern Arizona defensive tackle Sheldon Newton announced on Wednesday that they are joining the Broncos. Former Boston College pass rusher Kivon “Cheese” Wright committed on Tuesday.

Boise State now has six transfers in the class, including safety Titus Toller (Wisconsin), wide receiver Chase Penry (Colorado) and cornerback A’Marion McCoy (Laney College).

The Broncos signed 22 recruits on early signing day in December, including Toller, Penry and McCoy. The traditional signing period begins on Feb. 1.

Wegis, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound native of Ladera Ranch, California, spent the past three seasons at Utah. He appeared in one game last season and he’s joining the Broncos with three years of eligibility left.

He was a three-star recruit coming out of San Juan Hills High School in California, according to 247Sports. He signed with the Utes in 2020, passing on scholarship offers from Boise State, Cal, Oregon State, Washington State, Virginia, Colorado State, Fresno State, Rice, Utah State, San Diego and South Dakota.

Wegis posted 92 tackles, 10.5 sacks and three forced fumbles as a senior at San Juan Hills.

Newton, who checks in at 6-4 and 315 pounds, played three seasons at Northern Arizona. He appeared in five games in the spring of 2021 after the Lumberjacks’ 2020 season was postponed because of COVID-19. That fall, he appeared in 11 games and started three, finishing with 22 tackles and two sacks.

Last season, the native of San Jacinto, California, played in 11 games and posted 36 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks. Newton finished his career at San Jacinto High with 109 tackles and 12.0 sacks, 10 of which he recorded as a senior.
