Boise State quarterback Taylen Green picked up two more Mountain West Player of the Week awards after the Broncos’ 42-23 win over Utah State on Friday.

Green was named Mountain West Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week on Monday after he threw a career-high four touchdown passes and added a 91-yard touchdown run against the Aggies. It was the longest run by a player at any position in program history.

It marks the second time this season that Green has earned both honors in the same week. He also won both after posting 305 yards and two touchdowns through the air and adding a rushing touchdown in the Broncos’ 49-10 win over Colorado State on Oct. 29.

The 6-foot-6 redshirt freshman from Allen, Texas, has won six player of the week awards (4 freshman, 2 offensive) since taking over as the Broncos’ starting quarterback against San Diego State on Sept. 30. He was also named the conference’s freshman of the week following Boise State’s win over Wyoming on Nov. 19 and its 35-13 win over San Diego State.

Ragle steps down at Idaho State

The Idaho State football team is in the market for a new football coach. Head coach Charlie Ragle announced Monday that he’s stepping down to take another job after just one season in Pocatello.

The Bengals went 1-10 with Ragle at the helm. The 46-year-old is leaving Idaho State to coach tight ends and special teams under new Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham, according to the Arizona Republic.

“I certainly regret the timing of this move, however, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities sometimes come at inopportune moments,” Ragle said in a statement. “I am extremely appreciative of my time in Pocatello and at Idaho State, and I believe in the future of this program. I wish the city of Pocatello and Bengal Athletics great success, and I know this department is moving in a great direction.”

Ragle, who is from Arizona, took over at Idaho State in December 2021 after spending five seasons as the special teams coordinator at Cal and five years before that at the University of Arizona. Prior to his time in the Pac-12, Ragle accumulated a 63-7 record as head coach of Chaparral High School in Arizona.

Boise State offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter said Monday that he’s disappointed Ragle is moving on after less than a year with the Bengals. Koetter is a Pocatello native who has known Ragle for years and was instrumental in him getting hired at Idaho State.

“It’s very disappointing because of the people you leave behind: the staff, the athletic director and president who hired you, and the people that believed in you,” Koetter said. “I just feel bad for the people who are left behind because I’ve been on both sides of that.”
