Boise State alum Khalil Shakir flashes potential with TD catch at Bills’ training camp
Buffalo Bills fans are just beginning to get a taste of what Boise State football fans have enjoyed the past four years on The Blue.
NFL rookie wide receiver Khalil Shakir turned heads in training camp Thursday with a touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone. The Boise State alum hauled in the 37-yard Josh Allen pass between two defenders and backed his way in for the score as cheers echoed throughout the practice facility at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, New York.
“He’s done a pretty good job in terms of learning the offense,” Allen told reporter Maddy Glab of BuffaloBills.com. “He’s been switching up from Z (position) to F. He’s a smart kid and runs some really good routes. So it’s good to see him getting some reps with us and producing. I’m excited about him.”
The Bills selected Shakir with the 148th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Buffalo traded two picks to the Chicago Bears to move up to select him.
Shakir led Boise State in receiving two of the past three seasons, including a senior year in which he paced the Broncos with 77 catches for 1,117 yards and seven receiving touchdowns. He ranks No. 5 at Boise State with 208 career receptions, No. 4 with 2,878 receiving yards and is tied for No. 9 with 20 receiving TDs.
The Bills begin preseason play at 2 p.m. Mountain time Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Indianapolis Colts at Highmark Stadium.
