Former Boise State assistant will take reins for Fresno State football in interim role
Former Boise State running back and assistant coach Lee Marks will serve as interim head coach at Fresno State after Kalen DeBoer left to take over at Washington.
Washington fired former Boise State assistant Jimmy Lake on Nov. 14 after just 13 games as the Huskies’ head coach over the past two seasons. Lake had replaced former Boise State coach Chris Petersen, who retired.
Marks coached at Boise State from 2014 to 2019, beginning tenure as an assistant strength coach and leaving as running backs coach and co-special teams coordinator. He was a two-time All-Western Athletic Conference pick at Boise State from 2001 to 2005 and posted 1,773 rushing yards and eight touchdowns during his final two seasons as a starter. He left to coach at Fresno State last January.
As a coach at Boise State, Marks mentored former Broncos Jeremy McNichols, Jay Ajayi and Alexander Mattison, as well as current starter George Holani.
He spent the past two seasons as running backs coach, assistant head coach and run game coordinator at Fresno State, where he has worked with running back Ronnie Rivers, who ranks No. 5 in the Mountain West with 788 rushing yards this season.
