Boise State running back Robert Mahone was suspended indefinitely from the Broncos’ football team after he was arrested in August and charged with domestic battery or assault in the presence of a child.

On Friday, Boise State coach Bryan Harsin confirmed the 5-foot-10, 224-pound redshirt senior has entered the transfer portal.

Mahone, who played his high school ball in Prosper, Texas, appeared in 13 games and made seven starts last fall for the Broncos, totaling 425 yards and six touchdowns on 89 carries. He has appeared in 39 games since 2017.

George Holani paced the Broncos in the backfield last season as a true freshman. He posted 1,014 yards on the ground to extend Boise State’s streak of seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher to 11 straight. The Broncos also have junior Andrew Van Buren, junior college transfer Taequan Tyler and redshirt sophomore Danny Smith to bolster the position.

Mahone’s next court date is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 30. He entered a not guilty plea on Aug. 18.

Boise State lost redshirt senior Jordan Happle to the transfer portal on Thursday.

Men’s basketball: Transfer denied immediate eligibility

Boise State filed an eligibility waiver on behalf of Arizona transfer Devonaire Doutrive, but the NCAA denied that waiver, a university spokesperson said Friday.

Doutrive will be eligible at semester after serving his transfer year in residence and will have three semesters of competition remaining. The NCAA Division I Council recently voted to move the start of the men’s and women’s basketball season to Nov. 25.

Doutrive is a 2018 graduate of Birmingham High in Inglewood, California, and a consensus four-star prospect. His 85 scout grade from ESPN is the second-highest rating for a Boise State signee, behind only Doutrive’s former Arizona teammate and current Bronco Emmanuel Akot.

The 6-foot-5 native of Dallas was dismissed from Arizona for a violation of team rules last November. He also sat out the first two games of the season for another unspecified violation of team rules.
