Boise State has conducted more than 600 COVID-19 tests among athletes, staff members

Boise State has conducted 633 COVID-19 tests on athletes, coaches and staff members since the beginning of June with 41 positive cases, a spokesperson for the athletic department confirmed Tuesday morning.

Athletes are currently taking part in voluntary workouts, and on Monday, the university confirmed that it plans to test at least 200 athletes once a week, beginning Wednesday.

Players began returning to campus in the first week of June. Less than a week later, Boise State announced multiple players tested positive for the virus, but it declined to identify them.

On June 24, the university announced four positive cases out of 230 tests and vowed to provide periodic testing updates. On July 9, Boise State announced 22 athletes, coaches and staff members had tested positive for the virus.

The Mountain West suspended the fall season on Aug. 10, with the hopes of holding football games in the spring semester, though a final decision has yet to be made.
