Former Boise State QB Rypien waived by Broncos to make room for fellow rookie
The Denver Broncos waived former Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien on Saturday to make room for fellow rookie Drew Lock, a second-round pick, who is coming off injured reserve.
Rypien, a four-year starter for the Broncos from 2015 to 2018, was promoted from the Broncos’ practice squad on Nov. 1, and he spent the past three games as the backup to quarterback Brandon Allen.
Rypien, an undrafted free agent, left Boise State as the Mountain West’s all-time leader in passing yards with 13,581. He’s No. 2 all-time at Boise State in career passing yards, pass attempts (1,618), completions (1,036) and passing touchdowns (90).
If Rypien clears waivers, he’ll likely be re-signed to the Broncos’ practice squad. He did so when Denver released him as part of its final roster cut-down in early September.
