Former Boise State running back out for rest of NFL season with knee injury

The Philadelpia Eagles placed running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve Monday.

The former Boise State star is out for the season with a torn ACL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Ajayi was reportedly injured in the Eagles’ 23-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Ajayi was the Eagles’ leading rusher this season with 184 yards and three touchdowns. The 2015 fifth-round pick by the Miami Dolphins was traded to the Eagles last season. He helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl with 57 rushing yards.

His best NFL season came in 2016 when he had 260 carries for 1,272 yards and eight touchdowns for the Dolphins.

It is not known if the injury is to Ajayi’s right or left knee, but his right knee has been a chronic issue ever since he tore his ACL his freshman season at Boise State. That knee reportedly was the reason that he slipped to the fifth round in the draft.
