Boise State Basketball

Boise State plays three games in three days starting Sunday. Here’s why and when to watch

While Boise State’s football team braces for the cold mountains of Laramie, Wyoming, this weekend, the Broncos men’s basketball team is preparing for a much more pleasant trip.

The Broncos will travel to the sunny shores of the Cayman Islands to participate in the annual Cayman Islands Classic. The three-day basketball tournament tips off Sunday and will see Boise State play three games in three days.

“I’m excited,” sophomore forward Andrew Meadow said Wednesday. “I’ve never been, so I’m looking forward to it. But I know it’s a business trip, so I’m just ready to win the whole thing.”

Meadow is coming off a career-high 18-point night against Clemson, leading the Broncos to an 84-71 win last weekend. The win raised Boise State’s record to start the season to 4-1.

Here’s what to know about the Cayman Islands Classic and how to watch the Broncos play.

What is the Cayman Islands Classic?

The Cayman Islands Classic is an eight-team nonconference tournament set in the Cayman Islands, a small group of islands south of Cuba in the Caribbean Sea.

The tournament will feature Boise State, Duquesne, Hampton, South Dakota, Missouri State, High Point, Old Dominion and Boston College.

The Broncos enter the tournament as likely favorites, ranking much higher than the other seven teams in the NET rankings. The NET rankings are a tool the NCAA uses to calculate a team’s quality using a formula that takes into account.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Boise State ranks 26th in the nation out of 362 teams. The next-closest ranked team is Duquesne at 80th, while Hampton sits at the bottom of the group at 337th.

Who will Boise State play and when?

Boise State opens the tournament Sunday morning. While the Broncos’ tip-off time in the Cayman Islands is 11 a.m., that means a 9 a.m. start in Idaho.

The Broncos will begin the tournament against Hampton.

If Boise State wins that game, it will face the winner of South Dakota State and Duquesne at 11:30 a.m. Mountain on Monday. If Boise State loses its opening game, it’ll face the loser at 9 a.m. Mountain.

Tuesday’s tip time is difficult to pin down. But if the Broncos win twice and make it to the championship game, they’ll play at 5:30 p.m. Mountain on Tuesday.

“We’re focused on Hampton on Sunday, and then after that game, we’re going to have to scout for whoever we play next,” Meadow said. “I think it’s just on the fly; we’ve got to just scout them.”

How to watch the games

Unfortunately, it won’t be a simple task of just putting the games on your television.

All three of Boise State’s games in the tournament will be streamed on the website FloCollege. It’ll cost fans $19.99 per month or $107.88 for a yearly subscription. College students with a .edu account can sign up for a discounted price of $9.99 per month.
