Boise State women wrap up nonconference play with 51-point romp; Degenhart honored again
When Gordy Presnell first signed Anna Ostlie, he hoped she’d someday challenge Riley Lupfer for Boise State’s career 3-point record.
The sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, appears to be on her way.
Ostlie connected on 6-of-11 from 3-point range for a career-high 20 points as the Boise State women’s basketball team completed nonconference play with a 90-39 victory over Warner Pacific on Monday at ExtraMile Arena.
Over the past five games, Ostlie is shooting 50% from deep (19-for-38), and she has 26 made triples on the season, which ranks second in the Mountain West.
Fellow sophomore Abby Muse matched Ostlie with a career-best 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Ostlie also tied a career-high with six assists against the Knights.
“I thought we needed a feel good game going into Christmas” Presnell said in a news release. “It’s important our kids work out while they are home, but I want them to enjoy Christmas with their families. We will get back after it right after the holiday, and we have a challenge with five of our first seven conference games on the road.”
Boise State (4-7) led Warner Pacific 13-10 after the first quarter behind six points from sophomore Elodie Lalotte, who finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.
The Broncos then went on a 19-0 run to go into the half up 42-17, and their lead only grew in the second half. Boise State held Warner Pacific to 27.3% from the floor and 17.4% from 3-point range while outrebounding the Knights (6-5) a whopping 56-21, including 22 offensive boards that led to 24 second-chance points.
Sophomore point guard Mary Kay Naro flirted with a triple-double, compiling nine points, seven rebounds and 11 of the Broncos’ season-high 25 assists. True freshman Trista Hull rounded out four Broncos in double figures with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Junior Kaitlin Burgess and redshirt senior Dominique Leonidas each missed Monday’s game with injuries, leaving the Broncos with just three available players on the bench.
Boise State begins Mountain West play Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Colorado State. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado. The game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network, which is available at broncosports.com/mwn.
Men’s basketball: Degenhart honored again by Mountain West
For the second week in a row, Boise State forward Tyson Degenhart has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week.
Degenhart averaged a team-leading 16.5 points in wins over Santa Clara and Montana Tech. He finished with 18 points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in a 72-60 win over Santa Clara and followed up that performance by going 6-for-7 from the field for 15 points in an 88-57 victory against Montana Tech.
Since he was inserted into the starting lineup six games ago, Degenhart has scored in double figures each time. It is the longest double-digit scoring streak by a Boise State freshman since Anthony Drmic scored at least 10 points in eight consecutive games during the 2011-12 season.
Boise State (8-4) wraps up its nonconference schedule, in Degenhart’s hometown of Spokane, against Washington State (8-4). Tipoff is 6 p.m. Mountain time Wednesday at Spokane Arena. The game will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
