Boise State basketball teams split their matchups with Air Force; coach ejected

The Boise State basketball teams split a pair of matchups with Air Force on Wednesday night.

The women’s team beat the Falcons 70-61 at ExtraMile Arena. The Broncos scored the final eight points to close out a tight game and improve to 13-6 overall, 5-2 in the Mountain West.

Air Force had used a 19-2 fourth-quarter run to chop an 18-point deficit to one before Boise State stiffened for its 18th straight home conference win. Point guard Jayde Christopher contributed 13 assists and center Mallory McGwire posted her fifth double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Broncos men lost 85-78 at Air Force. Abu Kigab led Boise State with 20 points in a game that featured coach Leon Rice drawing a pair of technical fouls late in the first half. The ensuing free throws gave the Falcons an eight-point halftime lead — and the technicals resulted in an ejection for Rice.

Air Force (9-9, 3-3) shot 50 percent from the field and 26-for-30 from the free-throw line. Derrick Alston Jr. scored 16 points for Boise State (11-8, 3-4).

The Broncos teams play Utah State on Saturday — the men at 8 p.m. at ExtraMile and the women at 4 p.m. in Logan.
