Boise State women’s cross country sixth in national preseason poll

Both Broncos’ teams received their highest preseason rankings in program history Tuesday, when the USTFCCCA rated the women sixth and the men 16th. Boise State returns Allie Ostrander, the 2015 NCAA runner-up and No. 1 runner in the FloTrack preseason ranking; and fellow sophomore Brenna Peloquin (No. 6 on FloTrack), an outdoor track and field All-American.

Mountain West rival New Mexico, the 2015 national champion, became the first defending champ in six years to earn the top preseason ranking the next season. The Lobos were followed by Colorado, Providence, Oregon and N.C. State in the top five. Syracuse holds the top men’s ranking, with Oregon, Northern Arizona, Stanford and Colorado rounding out the top five.

The Broncos’ season begins Saturday at Utah State’s Aggie Invitational in Logan.

BIG SKY: The Idaho women were picked third, and the men seventh, in the conference’s preseason cross country polls. Idaho State was sixth in both rankings. The Northern Arizona men and Weber State women were picked to win the conference.
