Idaho colleges: Boise State grad Gates hired by Sacramento Kings
Bryan Gates, a Boise State graduate who led Idaho to an NBA Development League title in 2008, is a new assistant on head coach Dave Joerger’s staff in Sacramento, according to a Statesman source and ESPN basketball reporter Marc Stein.
Gates coached last season with the Timberwolves, but head coach Sam Mitchell was replaced by Tom Thibodeau in the offseason.
Gates also coached with the Pelicans (2010-15) and Kings in a previous stint (2009-10).
COLLEGE OF IDAHO SOFTBALL: Junior catcher Destiny Turner (Mountain View High) and senior shortstop Katie Rowe (Lake City) were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s NAIA West Region Team. Turner was selected to the first team for the third straight season after hitting .432 with six home runs and 29 RBIs. Rowe, a second-time second-team selection, hit .387 with three homers and 16 RBIs.
