Idaho colleges (May 19): Boise State track sends 10 to regionals
Five men and five women will compete for NCAA Championships berths at the West Region Preliminary Championships starting Thursday in Lawrence, Kan. The top 12 finishers in each 48-person event advance. Freshman Brenna Peloquin will compete in the women’s 5,000 meters, where she is seeded sixth; and the 10,000, where she is seeded third. Minttu Huuka (steeplechase, 24th), Tansey Lystad (5,000, 26th), Courtney Hutchinson (shot put, No. 48) and Gracie Tostenson (5,000, 48th) will join Peloquin. Three-time All-American David Elliott will run the men’s 1,500 (13th) with teammate Jeff Lautenslager (36th). Fernando Martinez (400 hurdles, 15th), Dusty Fisher (200, 37th) and Andrew Rafla (Timberline High; 5,000, 38th) also will represent BSU.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Boise State freshman shortstop Rebekah Cervantes made the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Division I All-Pacific Region team, which was announced Thursday. Idaho State junior left fielder Kacie Burnett was named to the Pacific second team for the second time, and sophomore pitcher Ashlyn Ames made the Pacific third team.
