Idaho colleges roundup: Former Boise State tennis player Shields wins Mtn. West honor

In his third season with Utah State, Clancy Shields was named the Mountain West men’s tennis coach of the year. It is the first honor for the former Boise State player and assistant coach. Utah State (21-8) won the regular-season title, the first in program history.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE BASEBALL: Ryan Johnson hit an RBI single that sent the Crusaders to a 2-1, walk-off win over Concordia on Thursday in Nampa. The victory completed a doubleheader sweep after NNU (26-20, 21-15 GNAC) beat the Cavaliers 10-8 in the opener.

NNU GOLF: Jack Strickland was named to the GNAC men’s all-conference first team, while Keynan Fanslow was a second-team selection. Samantha Miller made the women’s second team.

IDAHO WOMEN’S GOLF: The Vandals are tied for 13th at 16-over 300 after the first round of the NCAA Stanford Regional at Stanford Golf Course. Sophie Hausmann is tied for 16th after carding a 1-over 72.
