Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State men’s tennis rallies past UC Santa Barbara

The Broncos won their final four singles matches to pull off a 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Brian Foley, Thomas Tenreiro, Toby Mitchell and Kyle Buttars earned wins in the top four singles spots for BSU (10-8). Each of the four matches went to three sets, and six tiebreakers were played. Buttars played a tiebreaker in each set en route to a 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3) victory over Anders Holm at No. 4.

BSU WOMEN’S TENNIS: The Broncos rolled past Westmont 8-1 in Montecito, Calif. The Broncos swept the singles and won two of the three doubles matches. Paules Aldrey didn’t give up a game, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and teaming with Bobbi Oshiro to win their No. 3 doubles match 8-0. Nancy Menjivar also won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: Eastern Oregon junior Eric England (Mountain View High) is the NAIA national men’s outdoor field athlete of the week.

IDAHO WOMEN’S TENNIS: Freshman Marianna Petrei is the Big Sky player of the week.
