Idaho colleges roundup (Jan. 24): Boise State men’s tennis takes first loss

No. 5 Texas A&M used two ranked singles players and one ranked pair to earn three of its points, and the Aggies blanked No. 59 Boise State 4-0 in the second round of the ITA Kickoff on Sunday.

The Aggies took the doubles point and No. 4 singles, then sealed the victory when No. 29 Shane Vinsant beat BSU freshman Kyle Butters, and No. 5 Arthur Rinderknech defeated Toby Mitchell — both by 6-3, 6-3 scores. Butters and Mitchell won three games in each set.

The Broncos (4-1) visit No. 14 Virginia Tech on Saturday.

SKIING: Anton Waller, William Franzen and Lucas Underkoffer swept the top three slalom positions, and the College of Idaho men won their seventh straight Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference qualifier at Mount Bachelor in Bend, Ore. The Yotes (4:41.66) beat Oregon State-Cascades by 6.39 seconds. The C of I women also completed a weekend sweep with a time of 4:56.12.

TRACK AND FIELD: Northwest Nazarene pole vaulter Payton Lewis (Nampa Christian High) cleared 16 feet, 2.75 inches to win the event at the Bronco Invitational indoor meet Saturday in Nampa and improve his NCAA Division II qualifying mark.
