Boise State wrestling edges North Dakota State at home
Chris Castillo picked up a major decision at 157 pounds in the final match to give the Broncos a 19-18 victory over North Dakota State on Friday night. The Broncos (3-2, 1-0 Pac-12) ended a three-dual slide against NDSU (0-4) with the team’s first victory over the Bison since 2012. BSU won 6-of-10 matches. Taylor West (165, Borah High), Austin Dewey (174, Centennial High), Harley DiLulo (197, Meridian High), Josh Newberg (133) and Geordan Martinez (149) all won by decision. BSU’s homestand continues at 1 p.m. Sunday against Wyoming at Bronco Gym.
BSU INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Camden Stoddard won the men’s pole vault (15 feet, 3 inches), and the women’s distance medley relay team of Alexis Fuller, Jessica Bottelberghe, Kyra Lopez and Brenna Peloquin picked up the victory (12 minutes, 11.93 seconds) on Day 1 of the Ed Jacoby Invitational at Jacksons Track in Nampa.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Coyotes’ 23-game conference home winning streak ended with an 85-79 loss to No. 12 Southern Oregon in Caldwell. Dominique Jordan and Joey Nebeker (Melba High) each scored 25 for 25th-ranked C of I (11-7, 6-3 Cascade).
C OF I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: No. 8 Southern Oregon defeated the Coyotes 76-50 in Caldwell to remain unbeaten. The Raiders (16-0, 9-0 Cascade) forced 33 C of I turnovers and opened the second half with a 16-0 run. Petra Lumpert led the Coyotes (4-11, 3-6 ) with 15 points.
