Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State win gives Presnell career milestone
Brooke Pahukoa (18 points), Miquelle Askew (16) and Yaiza Rodriguez Ortego (15) combined for 49 points as the Boise State women’s basketball team defeated Stetson 71-65 on Saturday in their final game of the San Juan Shootout.
The victory was the 179th for head coach Gordy Presnell at Boise State, tying him for the most wins in program history with Connie Thorngren (1970-84).
The Broncos (3-2) next play Washington State at 7 p.m. Thursday at Taco Bell Arena. The Cougars are led by former Boise State coach June Daugherty.
BSU WRESTLING: Jake Velarde (141 pounds), Geordan Martinez (149), Chris Castillo (157) and Taylor West (165) won individual matches in the Broncos’ 22-12 loss to Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.
IDAHO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Freshman Taylor Pierce set a school record with nine 3-pointers as the Vandals (5-1) beat Iowa State 97-65 at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico.
IDAHO STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Bengals (2-4) lost 67-54 to UTEP in the championship game of the Thanksgiving Classic in El Paso, Texas.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN’S BASKETBALL: Joey Nebeker (Melba High) scored 32 points, but the Coyotes (5-4) could not hold off undefeated Lewis-Clark State, falling 88-86 at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
C OF I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Kiara Skinner had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Coyotes (1-5) to a 71-64 win over Montana Tech in the final game of the Lady Yote Classic.
