Idaho college sports roundup: Boise State wrestling wins Pac-12 opener

Taylor West (Borah High) and Austin Dewey (Centennial High) earned pins at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively, and the Broncos beat Arizona State 22-21 on tie-breaking criteria Sunday. The teams tied 21-21, but BSU earned the winning team point by having two six-point victories (falls, forfeits, defaults or disqualifications) to the Sun Devils’ one. Chris Castillo (157), Rami Haddadin (125) and Josh Newberg (133) won by decision.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: The 15th-ranked Yotes will face No. 3 Missouri Baptist (34-4), No. 10 Rocky Mountain (26-7) and No. 24 Ottawa, Kan. (34-4) in Pool C play at the NAIA championships, which start Dec. 1 in Sioux City, Iowa. The C of I (22-10) will face Rocky Mountain at 3:15 p.m. Dec. 1, followed by Missouri Baptist at 1 p.m. Dec. 2 and Ottawa at 1 p.m. Dec. 3. The top two teams in each pool advance to a 12-team, single-elimination bracket. All games will be streamed on the NAIA Network.

C OF I SWIMMING: The women finished third, and the men fourth, at the Northwest Invitational in Salem, Ore. Jake Klassen (Capital High) became the third Coyote to win an individual event by taking the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes, 15.91 seconds.

IDAHO STATE VOLLEYBALL: The Bengals (23-10) lost to Northern Arizona 28-26, 25-18, 25-23 in the Big Sky tournament final Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz. Idaho State played in its fourth straight conference championship match.

COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: The top-seeded Golden Eagles (35-3) beat Western Nebraska 25-22, 23-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-9 on Saturday in Casper, Wyo., in the NJCAA Division I final for the program’s 11th national junior college championship.
