Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State places four wrestlers at Cyclone Open
Sophomore Geordan Martinez led Boise State with a third place finish Sunday at 149 pounds. Three other wrestlers placed while two of those also reached the third-place match. Redshirt seniors Chris Castillo (157) and Taylor West (165) each finished fourth. The Broncos return to the mat next Sunday against Arizona State in Tempe.
C of I’s Porter named CCC player of the year
LA GRANDE, Ore. — College of Idaho middle blocker Kylie Porter was named Cascade Conference volleyball play of the year. The senior, from Capital High, led the league with a .413 hitting percentage and racked up a career-high 352 kills. She also added 98 blocks to lead the Coyotes to a league title. Setter Sierra Porter (Eagle High) was also selected to the first team.
Vandal women cruise in season-opening win
MOSCOW — The Idaho women’s basketball team opened its season in style with a 64-42 win over UC Santa Barbara. Senior Ali Forde led the way with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Geraldine McCorkell scored a game-high 14 points. The Vandals take the court again Saturday to take on Cal State Northridge.
