Boise Hawks rally in eighth inning to beat Spokane Indians
Willie Abreu drove in the tying run with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth, then he scored the winning run on a throwing error as Boise defeated Spokane 8-6 in a Northwest League baseball game Friday at Memorial Stadium.
The Hawks (15-20) trailed 5-0 in the fourth before Campbell Wear drove in Abreu and Jacob Bosiokovic with a double to start the comeback. The Indians (17-18) committed six errors, including three in the eighth. Boise’s third, fourth and fifth batters — Bosiokovic, Bobby Stahel and Abreu — had two hits apiece and combined for seven runs. Abreu had three RBIs, giving him 14 in 17 professional games.
Alec Kenilvort (1-0) struck out the side in the top of the eighth to earn the win, Boise’s second over Spokane in seven meetings this season. Sal Mendez (2-2) allowed five runs (three earned) in three innings to take the loss.
The five-game series continues at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
