Emeralds pull away for win over Boise Hawks
Eugene’s four-run seventh inning broke a 5-5 tie as the Emeralds topped Boise 9-7 on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.
A fielding error with two outs led to the third run, and the next batter smacked an RBI double.
Shortstop Garrett Hampson continued his outstanding start for Boise (4-9), hitting a double and a triple, and is now carrying a .389 average. Second baseman Anthony Brito drove in five runs for Boise, which had nine extra-base hits. But the Hawks also left 12 runners on base.
Six Hawks pitchers combined for eight strikeouts, but never had the lead after a two-base error on leadoff hitter D.J. Wilson’s at-bat put him on third to start the game, scoring on a sacrifice two batters later.
The Hawks close out a three-game series with Eugene on Thursday night, then host the Hillsboro Hops for three games starting Friday. Boise plays 30 games in 31 days in July, including 19 at Memorial Stadium.
