Letter to the Sports Editor: Sunday, May 15
Soccer
I love soccer, and I know that many Idahoans treasure The Beautiful Game as well. With that said, it’s about time we have a professional soccer team in Idaho to root for, and it turns out we might get that chance.
The Portland Timbers are looking for a city to house their United Soccer League affiliate team, and Boise could be that city. The Timbers 2 are going to be playing the Swope Park Rangers, Sporting Kansas City’s affiliate team, here in Boise as a way to feel out potential support for soccer in this city.
If you want a professional soccer team in our state, then you need to show up to this game June 4.
Basketball’s a cool sport, baseball’s our national pastime, hockey is a bad-A sport and I’ll be a Broncos football fan for life. But there’s only one Beautiful Game, and we have a chance to bring that game to Idaho.
State and city officials, and soccer fans across Idaho, need to do everything we can to convince the Timbers and USL that we’re ready for soccer.
