Firebird time, speed records fall at NAPA Ignitor Nitro Opener

Kris Krabill won the AA/Funny Car title during the NAPA Ignitor Nitro Opener at Firebird Raceway in Eagle, setting a track record in the quarterfinals and matching it in the semis.

The Kent, Wash., driver, who leads the NHRA Heritage Series standings, finished with an elapsed time of 5.67 seconds in consecutive rounds to earn new Firebird marks, then followed with a 5.69 to beat Dan Horan Jr. of Sylmar Calif., in the final.

Horan became the Firebird speed record-holder with a 259.76-mph run in the semis before a tire issue allowed Krabill to cruise to the championship.
