Idaho Steelheads beat defending ECHL champ in postseason opener

Shawn Boutin gave Idaho a two-goal lead, and Tommy Fallen added a power-play goal to seal Idaho’s 3-1 victory over the Allen Americans in Game 1 of a first-round series in the Kelly Cup hockey playoffs Thursday.

Andre Bouvet-Morrissette also scored for the Steelheads, who overcame a 37-24 shot disadvantage against the reigning ECHL champions and killed all four of their penalties. Philippe Desrosiers had 36 saves.

Game 2 is Saturday in Texas.
