Idaho colleges roundup: Longtime Idaho State track and field coach retires

After 33 seasons, Idaho State track and field coach Dave Nielsen is stepping down.

Assistant coach Hillary Merkley has been named interim head coach, ISU Athletic Director Jeff Tingey announced Monday.

Nielsen coached 21 ISU athletes to All-American status and earned three consecutive Big Sky Conference coach of the year awards from 2005 to 2007.

During his tenure, he coached Olympic pole vault champion Stacy Dragila.
