Idaho Steelheads fall to Utah in shootout, host rematch Saturday

Jefferson Dahl scored with 1 minute, 21 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, but the Utah Grizzlies held off the Idaho Steelheads in a shootout to earn a 4-3 victory Friday night in an ECHL hockey game at CenturyLink Arena.

Idaho scored twice on the power play in the final 6 minutes of the third period, with Joe Basaraba also finding the net. Dahl and Shawn Boutin scored in the shootout, but Utah’s Charles Sarault, Erik Higby and Barry Almeida earned goals to earn the extra point in the standings.

Basaraba also had two assists, and Andre Bouvet-Morrisette added a goal and an assist. Philippe Desrosiers had 30 saves in his first game for the club since being reassigned by the AHL’s Texas Stars.

The Steelheads (29-20-7) and Grizzlies (30-20-4), separated by one point for the West Division lead, play again at 7:10 p.m. Saturday.
