Boise’s Scott ‘thrilled’ with new NASCAR gig, starts driving for Petty on Monday
Brian Scott has three immediate tasks now that he’s landed a full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup ride with Richard Petty Motorsports. The deal was officially announced Friday in Mooresville, N.C.
Scott, a 27-year-old Boise High graduate who has been driving on the NASCAR Truck and Xfinity series since 2007, will take part in tire testing Monday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Scott and RPM are expected to announce a sponsorship package in January. In the past, Scott has been sponsored by Shore Lodge in McCall and Albertsons.
And in February, when all eyes are on the Daytona 500, Scott will begin his season-long quest for Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honors.
“I am thrilled to go Sprint Cup Series racing full time next year and to do it with such an iconic team,” Scott said. “When you think NASCAR racing, you think Petty. I’m glad to now be a part of that legacy. I feel like we are in a good position to compete for the rookie of the year ... and continue the consistency that RPM built over the last few years.”
Said Petty: “Our team has worked very hard to continue our winning tradition and build consistency. We feel Brian is a great addition to that. He’s made a steady progression through the ranks, and now, we feel he’s ready to compete in the Sprint Cup Series.”
