Idaho colleges roundup: College of Idaho volleyball notches upset win at nationals

The No. 15 Coyotes pounded out a school-record 65 kills and 88 digs to upend No. 10 Rocky Mountain 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 on Tuesday at the NAIA Championships.

Kylie Porter (Capital High) led the way with 20 kills, and setter Sierra Porter (Rocky Mountain High) had 53 assists and 16 digs as the Coyotes (23-10) avenged a three-set loss to Rocky Mountain in August.

The C of I continues pool play Wednesday against No. 3 Missouri Baptist at noon MT.

A win would move the Coyotes into the single-elimination round, which begins Friday.

C OF I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Jordan Klebaum scored a game-high 21 points to lead Eastern Oregon (5-4) to a 55-41 win over the Coyotes (1-6) in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams in Caldwell.

C OF I MEN’S BASKETBALL: Aitor Zubizarreta made a baseline jumper with 35 seconds to play to seal the No. 20 Coyotes’ 72-69 victory against Eastern Oregon (4-7, 0-1) in Caldwell. Joey Nebeker (Melba High) scored a game-high 26 points for the College of Idaho (6-4, 1-0 Cascade).

NORTHWEST NAZARENE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Crusaders (1-5, 0-1) fell to Central Washington 78-72 in their GNAC opener in Ellensburg, Wash. Ellie Logan led NNU with 23 points.

BOISE STATE VOLLEYBALL: Sophomore Sierra Nobley was named the AVCA National Player of the Week after recording a team-high 25 kills with a .524 hitting percentage in a sweep of Utah State.
